Rafael was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where he began his career onstage at the age of 3. He attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, then went on to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, before returning home to LA. He was nominated for an LA Drama Critics Circle Award and won the LA Weekly Theater Award for playing Hamlet.
